Super Cool Party People

December 19th, 2008 / No comments

Went to a small holiday party @ Patrick & Karl’s tonight!  I’m always grateful to people for throwing house parties b/c if it weren’t for them, I’d probably never be in that situation, only b/c I would never throw one myself.  I love the idea of throwing one but ugh, having everyone in your house around your things, all that pressure to entertain and impress… ugh, it’s too much for me.  That’s why I appreciate parties like this so much.  They have a tiny, cute apartment on the UWS.  Everyone was there so it was cool catching up, Jess wasn’t really in the party mood but it was good to see her anyway.  Nick came over right after work and we spent the night chatting it up with everyone while listening to music.  I drank a lot of Smurfette cocktails.  Really should have blueberry Stoli more often!

All this festive celebrating, plus the snow lately, really drives it home that it’s winter.  Beautiful one so far.

I love it when I’m 40minutes late to work and nobody even notices.

Our First Tree

December 17th, 2008 / No comments

What an awesome weekend I’ve had.  After that great night with my coworkers (still can’t believe we had fun together), it seemed to only get better.  Nick and I went to dinner Monday night @ Silom in Chelsea, which was cute and almost empty so it felt like we were the only ones there.  Nick looked really cute in his blue shirt (makes his eyes pop) and I couldn’t stop reaching across the table just to touch his hand or lean in for a kiss.  I had a Concierge event @ Buddha Bar I needed to go to so Nick was my date and Billy joined us later on.  Can you say unlimited cocktails for Concierge events?  Oh yes, we had so much fun — Nick loved the music, came right home and downloaded the whole series.  The lounge was gorgeous (I’ve been before) and fyi, I recommend the Buddha’s Lemonade and the coconut mojitos if you ever go there.

Tuesday evening we were all over the city in the snow.  Ran for some fried chicken & waffles @ my beloved Amy Ruth’s Harlem, raced to the UWS for a dozen Crumbs cupcakes (Nick insisted, it wasn’t me), and then hopped the train to Target to shop for Christmas ornaments.  So much running around in the cold, but it was truly so much fun.  Hanging out, running errands, and doing stuff together — they all feel like dates with Nick.

Nick's tree.

I fell asleep when we got home, but when I woke up this is what was I saw.  Pretty awesome.  Last year I absolutely REFUSED to have a tree cuz i just generally think they’re a waste of money and space, but Nick was so cute about getting one I couldn’t very well deny him a second year in a row.  Truth is, I just like watching him beg.  Ahem.  So, amid the hustle of my long weekend of activity, Nick and I put up our very first Christmas tree together.  That’s kind of wonderful, you know?  Makes it glow just a little more when I look at it.  I’m really happy to have it up.

Chocolate Decadence

December 15th, 2008 / No comments

Yesterday morning Nick and I went to brunch @ Norma’s (thank you OpenTable giftchecks) and I indulged myself… like I always do.

Death on a plate.

The chocolate french toast @ Norma’s could stop your heart.  The waiters always warn you that it’s extremely rich.  RICH, y’all.  Those are slices of warm, FRESH chocolate bread drenched in chocolate sauce (not Hershey’s syrup) with nuts and strawberry slices between the layers.  Topped with whipped cream.  The little orange wheel they add is cute, probably to present the illusion of something natural on that plate before you inhale it.  Dear God I could die happy eating this stuff.

Later tonight I metup with S & B from work for a “department meeting”, which was really just a big free dinner @ Double Crown.  They’d invited us all in for a Tasting so we arranged a time that worked for all of us and did it.  I have to say, I didn’t wanna do it at first — hanging with coworkers is never something I willingly opt to do — but I really had fun.  We all dished on work, of course, trash talked and laughed about bullshit, gossiped about who’s probably getting fired and who’s probably gay.  It was great.  I liked the restaurant and actually tried Bone Marrow soup… amazingly I didn’t hate it.  B left to get home cuz he had to work the next day, so S and I dropped by Urge Lounge to get more drunk and we had a BLAST, us fool Texans.  S can chat up anyone, I left for the bathroom and when I got back she’d gotten us 2 giant mojitos and was becoming fast friends with the go-go boy.

A charming young man. Very likeable.

I may be slightly hung over today.

Nightswimming

Last night was fun as hell!  I went to Karen’s office holiday party in this huge, amazing showroom in Chelsea.  Giant loft space like something you’d see featured in an issue of Surface.  Those design folks know how to throw a party, man.  The bar was stocked with amazing cocktails, the food spread was huge, the DJ was great, and everybody was in the party mood — dancing and talking.  I’ve met a bunch of Karen’s associates here and there in the past at random events, so it was cool to mingle with people I’m friendly with.

Appletini, anyone?

I left the party after a little bit and metup with a bunch of friends @ Hotel QT for my friends Kate and Chelsea’s joint birthday party.  Hotel QT has one of my FAVORITE lobbies b/c it’s so mod and minimal, oh and um… for the SWIMMING POOL in the middle of the fucking lobby!  They have giant screens and steamrooms and sitting areas and you can swim right up to the bar, it’s just too cool.  All my old Hudson peeps were there, too — Ben, Frank, Eddie, Ben, Toni (flew in from Hawaii!) — and soon all my crew showed up.  Nick, Karen, Billy, Patrick and his boys, it was a blast.  There’s video of it floating around someplace but there’s no way in hell I’m linking all of you to images of me frolicking around half naked and wet.  No.  Good times, tho.

Were the World Mine

December 9th, 2008 / No comments

Had such a great night with Nick.  He met me after work, we went to dinner and then saw “Were the World Mine” @ Quad Cinemas.  I’d been dying to see it for weeks — months, actually, ever since I saw it mentioned on Towleroad.  It was so beautifully staged and shot, the dream sequences were so colorful, and yes the boys were really cute.  As a story it was uneven and sloppy, but just overall really charming.  I downloaded the soundtrack as soon as I got home.

I’ll be singing this for days, I just know it.

We stopped by Crumbs after the movie.  The selection there never ceased to amaze me… or drain my wallet.
