Cornfields
March 31st, 2009 / No commentsNick’s mom is pulling through. We’ve been here at the hospital (it’s a really nice one, right by her house) pretty much all day every day. She’s conscious now and seems mostly alert, still headstrong as ever — I guess that’s a good sign, altho it’s been pretty fucking irritating to be honest. Not to me directly but to everyone else who is here trying to help her. She doesn’t want to eat, doesn’t want nurses helping her, doesn’t want anyone telling her what to do. Both Lisa and Nick have been pushed to such a breaking point, I just hope they can get through to her. There’s not much else going on — little pit stops at fast food for lunch, quick easy dinners on the way home. I spend a lot of time here in the waiting rooms, clicking away on my laptop and trying not to think about sad things (or Spanish beaches).
Nick and I went to dinner and got drinks with Alicia tonight. Fun seeing her again! We had some Chili’s and saw Taken. It was nice doing something normal, altho that didn’t last long. Nick’s mom was calling his cell a lot during dinner saying he needed to come see her right away, etc. Nick’s learning to put up a good defense with her.
I don’t mean to make her sound so awful, it’s just been so stressful. She actually hugged me when she saw me here, as best she could anyway. It was really sweet.

My parents are OK but I’m still weirded out like hell.

Are You Looking?
March 25th, 2009 / No commentsWent to see Duplicity tonight with Lindsey. Confusing and boring, I couldn’t figure out the plot. Nick called me during the movie, I went out into the lobby to take the call. His mom is basically on her deathbed, or at least they’re afraid so. His sister Lisa flew in from Norway. This is really scary stuff. I’m waiting on him to tell me when he’s ready for me to come down. Spain isn’t happening, at least I’ve emotionally decided so… and I couldn’t care less. What’s going on in Iowa is way more important.

Went to the Duane Reade clinic yesterday. Apparently there’s a walk-in on 50th Street. They gave me some antibiotics and I’ve been guzzling chicken broth and orange-pineapple juice nonstop. Feels like I’m in limbo or something. Wooz. Some warm chicken tom kha has been nice tho.
I wish the media would STOP covering Natasha Richardson’s death, the obsession needs to be over. What’s this need to sensationalize it? We all know what happened to her, it’s not like anything reported will be breaking news. It’s all just a shameless play to get some Best Coverage journalism award later this year. I just don’t appreciate how her life/career never seemed to warrant headlines before, yet now the media is acting like they lost this person they’ve always cared about and treasured. It’s disgusting.

Wickedness
March 20th, 2009 / No commentsToday after work I got to attend a special “Backstage Sneak Peek” of WICKED. The invitation had been pretty vague about what excatly this was, so I went not really knowing how cool or lame this would be. I took Tameika from work which to be honest I just need to stop doing. I’ve brought her to several events with me, always thinking it’ll be fun geting to know her, and she it always ends up being a letdown b/c she never seems to know how to act at these things. Anyway, we got to the Gershwin and the lobby was set up with lots of props and costumes from the show — different outfits the characters wear, the Grimmerie, Glinda’s wand, stuff like that — pretty cool seeing it all up close. I took pictures for my dad! They brought us into the theater (I always gets a jolt of excitement when I see the Wicked stage) and sat us, showed us a few behind the scenes documentaries about how the show got started, etc. Finally they brought out Stephen Schwartz, the COMPOSER of the show, and he actually sat and talked to us about how he came up with ideads and lyrics for a lot of the songs — apparently, “For Good” was inspired by him asking his daughter what she’d say to her best friend if she knew they’d never see each other again — and oh my God, it was so amazing to have him play for us. Absolutely one of the coolest things I’ve been able to observe viz this job. After that, they had some people come out and talk about a referral program they’re offering for Concierges and booking agents, then they did a raffle of prizes, and that was pretty much it.
Nick calked me just as I was walking uptown to Columbus Circle. Not great news. His mom was rushed to the hospital today. We’re standing by for more news, it seems very serious. I skipped the BSG finale at Jessica’s tonight, just no way I was gonna leave Nick on his own with the weight of all this on him. I haven’t seen him this serious in a really long time. All the Believers out there, please pray tonight. Lift spirits up, things are really heavy.

March 19th, 2009 / No commentsGot my luggage for Spain today! This is my first REAL quality peice of travel gear (aside from the Jack Spade weekend bags I own but can never bring myself to use b/c they’ll get dirty). I decided my oldschool $40 flimsy Embark luggage from Target wouldn’t do for a proper international trip, so I trekked it up out to Marshall’s in the Bronx. What a steal. I love it.
Cannot wait for this trip!

Teeny’s Spa Day
March 17th, 2009 / No commentsMe and Teeny busted out of the apartment today. I went grocery shopping and she went to the spa for a mani/pedi. We didn’t want to ruin her nails so we took the bus home. It was a very exciting day.

Flavor Trippin’
March 15th, 2009 / No comments
The audio in this post is a little hard to hear, but you can read more about this mirable berry and the flavor-tripping parties here. Karen and I had such a fun evening in the end! We wandered around Williamsburg (got lost on a bus ride for a while there) and wound up having an amazing southern meal @ this place called Egg. So cute. I had fried chicken and gravy and iced tea.
We walked around a bit more, just soaking up the night. Karen flirted with these 2 british guys sitting outside some bar, they were pretending to be in an emo band. I gotta hand it to her, she played a smooth game but they didn’t seem to bite. I’m thinking Gay, just way too cute… but that’s how they make them over there, ain’t it? Sorta foppish in general?
Fun Fun day. Brooklyn’s cute.
