9 to 5

April 13th, 2009 / No comments

Went to see 9 to 5 on Broadway tonight with Mike.  Allison Janey was awesome, the perfect update on Lily Tomlin’s role.  The show was so much fun, kinda campy in ways.  We met up with Nick at Yum Yum Bangkok for a bite after the show and then got drinks at some neighborhood spot.  Fun seeing Mike, I so rarely get him to myself anymore.

In the trend of reinterpreting old movies into new stuff, why hasn’t anyone turned Mona Lisa Smile into a TV series?  Put somebody like Heather Graham in the Julia Roberts role, add a bunch of mouthy tweens and set in the 60s — could be TV gold.

Easter

April 12th, 2009 / No comments

So sick of everyone asking me what I’m doing for Easter.  I’ve gotten this question so much in the last week.  When did Easter become a holiday like Christmas or 4th of July weekend, where everyone makes plans?  Seriously, when did it get all Christian up in here?

They're creepy, no?

Easter always makes me think of that scene in Steel Magnolias where all the ladies are asking Anelle about her exhusband and the dog escapes and all the easter eggs gets smashed in Truvy’s trunk.

Lagging

Damn do I need to update this here blog or what?  I know some of you aren’t big fans of my video posts (probably b/c you can’t be misled into believing they’re anything other than an example of my laziness to write), but still… watch them for a bit.  Or follow me on Twitter until I get this blog all caught up with what’s been going on.  Yeah I just took the Twitter Kool-Aid and shit, y’all, I’m so in the cult now.  If you can’t get into this, I totally understand b/c I held out as long as I could too.  Just know that you me and your gramma are tweeting up a storm while you stare at my neglected blog.  Oh, and I have to approve you on there too, b/c tho I may not have changed on how freely I share my life online, I certainly have learned to monitor who’s reading.  I don’t need snooping ex’s, witch-hunting frenemies, and HR Managers peeping this shit, you know.

Oh, those drama-loving queens @ Queerty put me on shout again, this time over a little spatversation I’ve been having with Couver87 (John) on YouTube.  HOWDEE to all the new visitors to my blog and sorry to dissappoint any drama-hunters, but I already buried the hatchet with that adorable John kid.  Checkout my new video…

In other news, I just started a new change in my regular schedule.  Working WED nights now instead of mornings, and then back to work on THURS mornings… ugh, I’m less than enthused but it’s sort of a way of evening out the seniority with my coworkers.  Plus, I get to sleep in another day so that’s always nice.

The weather is starting to spring up in the city.  The trees in the park across from my apartment are going green!

Grooving in Soho

April 5th, 2009 / No comments

Busted outta work EARLY this afternoon and spent a lovely day wandering the world south of Houston.  Normally I like to go home and just relax, but the weather was SO gorgeous today and I just wanted walk around the streets longer.  So Karen and I met up and I finally got to take her to the Young Designer Market, which she totally loved.  I swear they always have the coolest shit there.  Wish they had more stuff for guys tho.

Young Designers Market in Soho

After the market we went for drinks at Pravda, this awesome underground Russian lounge on Lafeyette and I’m pretty sure their lemon cocktail is one of the best I’ve ever had.

The Leninade and the Vladimir.

I absolutely LOVE the space, so dark and moody, the upstairs lounge was my favorite.   The bar was practically empty and they were running a 2 for 1 happy hour so we kicked back a few and just chilled.  Eventually she had to split and I took myself to a foot rub at Wu LIm Qi Gong, this random basement massage parlor in Little Italy/Chinatown.  They’re not as shady as it sounds/looks.  They actually do amazing foot reflexology for dirt cheap.

It was a great day in the city and with my dawg Karen.  Last time I hung out with her was the night before I left for Iowa, and now I feel like I just barely got back, so it’s cool slipping back into the groove of what my life feels like.

That Don’t Impress Me Much

Back in NYC.  Sent belated bday flowers 2day to my ex Jeff. Mixed bamboo, pincushions, ginger, and mini-lilies. He’ll love it.

After work today I had lunch @ Beyond Thai, my new addiction. Red chicken curry at last!  They were playing Shania Twain, the whole CD, and like really loud.  Asians are so layered.
